At Jules Verne Riga French School (JVRFS) applications for admission can be considered at any time during the year and enrolment will not be denied because of religion, gender, colour, ethnic origin, nationality, or the parent’s occupation and political views; however at the moment the school is not equipped to educate children with learning difficulties or severe physical handicaps. We will consider each child individually to see if we have adequate resources.

The following steps must be completed before the child is officially enrolled at JVRFS.

  • A completed application form
  • Annual registration fee of 200 LVL per family paid
  • A confirmation of enrolment received

For the child to be admitted the following documents must be provided:

  • A copy of the child’s birth certificate (in Latvian) or a copy of the child’s passport + residence permit
  • An insurance (if the child hasn’t got one, JVRFS can provide one)
  • 3 passport-size photographs
  • Standard medical forms
  • Signed copies of the school regulations and authorization forms
  • Previous school records (if applicable)
  • In case of separation and custody given to one parent, a copy of the court ruling

In the event of limited classroom space, children will be admitted according to the following priority system:

  • Children enrolled at the school during the last school year
  • Siblings (from the age of the Petite Section)
  • French-speaking children (from the age of Petite Section de Maternelle)
  • Non-French speaking children (from the age of Petite Section de Maternelle)

If there are no places vacant at JVRFS, the families who wish to enrol their children will be requested to join a waiting list and the enrolment fee will be refunded during the Easter holidays if enrolment is not possible.

The applications for admission to Jules Verne Riga French School (JVRFS) must comply with the effective legislation regulating the French settlements abroad, including educational, linguistic or cultural spheres, as well as the relevant legislation of Latvia. In the educational field, the official regulations of France and Latvia  and bilateral agreements prevail.

Note: In the French system, there is a huge difference between a kindergarten and a school: at the day-care centre children socialize and are supervised. At school they study, therefore regular attendance is essential. For this reason the regulations for a child of two  and a student of five differ greatly. The students should not miss school without a good reason. Exceptional cases can be discussed, such as part-time attendance (for a full-time fee), yet only for younger children and on a regular basis.

NB !

  1. The payments are due between the 1st and the 10th day of each month. The administrative fine for late payment will be applied for each day of delay, up to 0.5% of the monthly fee. If the payment is not received by the 25th of the month, the enrolment can be suspended until settlement of the payments.
  2. No reductions or refunds will be made due to absences from school whatever the reason, as the school fee is calculated without a profit margin and there are no extra funds to cover the unforeseen losses.
  3. The cases of force majeure (a move of over 30 km, parental job loss or prolonged illness, etc.) warrant a meeting with the school director in order to allow the absence from the JVRFS during the school year. When the child leaves school, the tuition fee is payable for the current month as well as the following month.
  4. The cost of meals is settled monthly. Meals cost 2,50 lats per day. This is a single price for the three meals and no reduction will be made if the child misses a meal or two during the day. However, a reduction will be made on the next month’s price for each full day away from school.
  5. You may apply for the tuition benefit from the French government if your child is of the French nationality and is registered at the French Consulate in Riga. The forms may be obtained through the school director. You will then have to make an appointment with the French Consulate (tel. 6 703 6600 - French Consulate). The appointments must be scheduled before March for the first round of consideration to take place in April. Late applications will be considered in the second round scheduled for October.
